Pro1-IPA is presently screening for future part-time investigators/security agents.
The following is a list of minimum requirements:
Private Investigator
Security Agent
Qualifications:
Must be 18 or older
Must have High School Diploma or G.E.D
Must have the ability effectively communicate
Must be a citizen of the United States
Must pass a criminal history background check
(has not been convicted of a felony or crime involving moral turpitude
Must be of good moral character
Must pass a past drug screening test
(does not unlawfully use drugs)
Must not use alcohol to the extent it adversely affects your ability to perform competently
Must not have been adjudicated/incapacitated without being restored to legal competency
Must not have a physical/mental impairment which prevents performing duties competently
Must not have been discharged from the military service with other then honorable conditions
Must be able to maintain punctuality standards
Must be able to maintain appearance standards
Must be able to maintain attention to detail
Preferred background but not required:
Prior military
Prior law enforcement
Prior intelligence background
College degree in Criminal Justice
Prior or present Private Investigator
Work experience in a job relating to law enforcement
Special Note for Private Investigators:
In accordance with Chapter 18: Private Security and Investigation Agencies, Section 40-18-80, Paragraph B, within
30 days of employment as a private investigator, the private investigator licensee (Pro1-IPA), or the person to be
employed as an investigator (you) must submit an application to SLED for registration as a private investigator. After
30 days of employment, Pro1-IPA cannot authorize a person (you) to perform the duties of a private investigator
(own your own), unless you have a valid private investigator registration card, or you have applied for one. This
means you may not work as a private investigator on you own. However, pending issuance of a registration
certificate, a person may perform the duties of a private investigator while accompanied by a registered private
investigator.
Additionally, in accordance Pro1-IPA guidelines, all perspective private investigators will be required to pay for their
own private investigator registration, as the registration will be their property, and the property of SLED. Further, all
perspective private investigators will be required to undergo investigative training as set forth by Pro1-IPA. They will
also be required to attend the Basic Training for Private Investigator, which is sponsored by the South Carolina
Association of Legal Investigators (class dates to be announced).
Private Investigator Application Fee for SLED: $350.00
Basic Training for Private Investigators: $120.00 (fee may vary)
Special Note for Security Agents:
In accordance with Chapter 18: Private Security and Investigation Agencies, Section 40-18-80, Paragraph A, a person
performing the duties of a security officer (security agent for Pro1-IPA) must have a valid security officer registration
certificate (Level 1 Core Training). However, you may perform the duties as a security officer for up to 20 days but
only if you have applied for your certificate of registration (this is 20 days from the date SLED received your
application). Additionally, you must understand that during this 20 day period you, as security officer, you will not
have arrest authority and you cannot carry a firearm until SLED issues a registration certificate. If the card is not
issued within 20 days, the security officer must cease performing all security-related activities. Also, be aware that
the issuance of a registration certificate based on Level 1 Core Training does not authorize you to carry a firearm.
You must satisfactory take and past/qualifiy at Level II and/or Level III training. All perspective security officers are
required to pay for their own training, and registration.
Additionally, in accordance Pro1-IPA guidelines, all perspective security officers will be required to pay for their own
security registration. Further, all perspective security officers will be required to undergo periodic refresher training
as set forth, and provided by Pro1-IPA. There is no cost for the refresher training provided by Pro1-IPA for its
employees.
